Dear Reader,

Sherman Health Foundation is the charitable arm of Sherman Hospital and works with individuals, corporations, and foundations to develop financial and community support for the Hospital.

The Hospital is an excellent example of how even a single charitable contribution serves generations of patients and their families. Sherman began with a philanthropic gesture when the Elgin Woman's Club approached Henry Sherman to donate his house to "take care of all..." Today, the Hospital provides healthcare services to over 100,000 people annually, and gives more than $21 million back to the community each year.

Since its inception in 2004, Sherman Health Foundation has provided funding for several projects that have a direct impact on our community's healthcare: a mobile unit that provides wellness screenings to community members; wireless EKG equipment in ambulances that enable emergency room physicians to diagnose heart conditions while the patient is en route to the hospital; and home care kits to help heart failure patients manage their recovery.

Now Sherman Hospital is building an entirely new facility designed to provide the latest and best in quality patient care for the region. In support of the new hospital, Sherman Health Foundation recently launched the community fundraising campaign with a goal of $12 million. Contributions to the campaign will be used toward life-saving, state-of-the-art technology and improvements to the new building. We are grateful to the generous individuals and organizations who have already shown their support for this project by raising $10.1 million.

As construction on the new hospital continues and we prepare to move into our new facility in December 2009, the support from individuals, families, and friends of Sherman will further our mission of making a positive difference through outstanding healthcare and service—every life, every moment, every day.

I hope that the information included on this site will inspire you to continue the tradition of philanthropy at Sherman that began 120 years ago.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Tscherney
Executive Director
